Making Space Collective at The Festival of Fire 2012While many discussions had taken place about the form of our sculpture, ultimately the idea evolved very naturally and harmoniously. Work on the structure physically began on the Wednesday preceding the festival and finished in time for the opening on Saturday morning.
Over the three days various members came and went to the site when they could, gathering the raw materials, branches and leaves, while others built |
the piece up gradually, until it began to take form: a six-pointed star with an enclosed centre, based on the spiritual geometry of the Star Tetrahedron.
But far more important than the concept itself was the working together, the communal effort involved, the utilising of various talents, some creative, some practical and organisational, some quite simply of labour, all gave our sculpture a greater symbolism, that of the unity of purpose in Making Space.
Throughout the Saturday we could see quite plainly the draw of the sculpture from people of all ages and we noticed the particular fascination amongst children. Our efforts have been reflected by the overall success of the Festival Of Fires and Making Space is eager to reproduce, if we can, that success again next year.
